A Sustainable Building

 
 
 
 
THE VISION
Designing a sustainable school is a mixture of ideas of how Architects and planners are meeting the challenges of creating better schools for the future. Late Pandit Girdhari Lal Salwan created our school…in brick and mud…and with the passage of time, it started giving way due to poor-maintenance…and had to be reconstructed to "sustain the vision" of the founder.

PASSIVE SOLAR HEATING
Our school building is based on this design. The heat is trapped in the green belt, cooled and a cool
breeze blows across the classroom in summers thus providing relief to the body.
 
 
VENTILATION PRE HEATING
Ventilation pre-heating is inexpensive and efficient way to use solar energy. A dead south facing wall, without windows stops direct sun to enter classrooms in our school. We are planning to install solar energy to light up the classrooms and save electricity expenses. Initial cost is high but long term saving is tremendous….a boost for green technology.


RENEWABLE ENERGY
We are encouraging our student to take care of the trees planted in campus for the conservation of renewable source of Energy. Such a measure keeps the environment temperature cool and less taxing on electricity consumption.   

CFC LIGHTS
We are encouraging the use of CFC Lights to reduce energy consumption.

WIND ENERGY
We are working on to tap Wind energy for electric motors, for pumping water for irrigation. It is very expensive but we believe wind turbines will drive clean energy into our city one day.

ACOUSTIC COMFORT
Our classrooms and the laboratories have good acoustical treatment so that noise transmission is reduced. Pin-up boards and Venetian blind helps.

GEO_EXCHANGE HEATING AND COOLING SYSTEM
Only a few schools in India enjoy the benefits of geo-exchange heating and cooling systems. Though our school is an airy one and cannot afford as on date Geo-thermal heating and cooling system, we believe, this is one of the cleanest methods for clean energy sustainability.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
We are working towards using  occupancy sensors in class-rooms (though we cannot afford due to funding )that will regulate all electrical fittings based on the occupancy of the room, which will save expenses in the long run.

ENVIROMENTAL FRIENDLY MATERIAL
Our school encourages use of Rubber wood or re-cycled wood for classroom furniture which is eco-friendly. We also use 'UV' exterior paint that reflects heat upto 15% so that the classrooms are kept cool during summers.

RECYCLING AND WASTE MANAGEMENT
We encourage segregation of bio-degradable / non­-degradable material in separate bins which can then be re-cycled for paper. Old timber and steel has been salvaged for re-construction purpose.

ALTERNATE TRANSPORTATION SYSTEM
We encourage car pool, cycling to school and mass transportation system and neighborhood concept for admission.

WATER
Rain water harvesting system has been installed to re-charge the water table in our school.

+ Where absentees drops.
+ Where eyes don't get strained by reading in dark class rooms.
+ Where the choice of colours brings joy to your life.
+ Where increasing costs are cut by sustainable development.
+ Where the school actually becomes a teaching tool.
+ Where we are able to sustain our growth.
